The main project activity is organizing neuroscience schools

Each year 3-4 Neuroscience IBRO Africa Neuroscience Schools are held in different Africa countries on particular neuroscience theme or topic.

Announcements of school’s document with the planned School’s application guidelines, dates, location and the deadline for applying for admission is posted on both IBRO and SONA sites as well as distributed though our mailing list for wide circulation.

Applications to participate in these schools is done online through the IBRO schools website and open to all African students studying and living in Africa. Selection is done by Africa Regional Committee (ARC) of IBRO which appoints an ad hoc review committee that select the best students out of a fairly large pool of applicants. Some of the selection criteria used are (1) previous attendance at an African IBRO school, (2) strength of academic qualifications (3) background in neuroscience research or study (4) completeness of the application and (5) age of applicant (usually under 35 years).

The selected students receive full travel and accommodation bursary.

After each school, a report is compiled with list of participant students, faculty members’ full contacts, the school’s program and the school evaluation which is submitted for posting on the IBRO schools website.
